COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to Air Force, 3-0, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament on Saturday evening at the Cadet Ice Arena. With the loss, the fifth-seeded Crusaders conclude their season with a 10-20-5 overall record, while the fourth-seeded Falcons improve to 17-15-5 overall and advance to the conference's semifinals in Rochester, N.Y.
The Falcons scored the first goal of the game at the 15:24 mark of the first period, when Theo Zacour fired the puck into the lower right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season. For the period, Air Force outshot Holy Cross, 9-4, while each team went 0-1 on the power play.
The second period went scoreless as the Crusaders took 10 shots and went 0-1 on the man-advantage, while the Falcons had 12 shots and went 0-2.
Air Force increased its lead to 2-0 at 5:25 into the third period with a goal by Mike Phillipich. With 1:39 left, Greg Flynn scored the last goal of the game on a power play for the 3-0 final score.
Holy Cross sophomore goaltender Charlie Lockwood (Breckenridge, Colo.) made 31 saves, while Ben Worker stopped 17 shots for the Falcons. Holy Cross had 17 shots and went 0-7 on the power play, while the Falcons took 34 shots and went 1-4.
