Crusaders, Falcons Draw 2-2 In Overtime
March 4, 2005
Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross and Bentley College skated to a 2-2 tie in the extra stanza, Friday night at the Hart Center in the Crusaders final Atlantic Hockey home-game of the regular season.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the first when junior Josh Thompson scored from the edge of the left face off circle at 3:58 in the period.
Midway through the first, Holy Cross evened the score at one-all when sophomore James Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va.) slapped a shot from just inside the right face-off circle that ricocheted off the post to sophomore Jon Landry (Lexington, Mass.), who tucked it past Bentley netminder Simon St. Pierre at 9:54. Sophomore Sean Nappo (Northville, Mich.) also assisted on the play.
Holy Cross used a man-up advantage to take a 2-1 lead when sophomore Frank O'Grady (Kimberley, B.C) fired a shot from the top of the circles that was saved by St. Pierre and redirected to freshman Dale Reinhardt (Livingston, N.J.), who netted the rebounded shot at 13:58 in the first. Sixsmith was also credited with an assist.
Bentley's Seth Vinocur fired a shot from high in the slot and then tipped in the game-tying goal during a scramble in front of the net at 9:03 in the second.
Despite out shooting Bentley, 20-5 in the second period and 13-3 in the third, Holy Cross was unable to post another goal to win the game.
Junior netminder Tony Quesada (South Freeport, Maine) made 21 saves for Holy Cross, while St. Pierre halted 46 shots on goal. The Crusaders went 1-for-5 on the power play and killed off all four of Bentley's opportunities.
The Crusaders conclude regular-season action on Saturday, March 5, when they go up against Bentley in Watertown, Mass., at 7:30 p.m.
