WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to Connecticut, 3-0, on Friday night at the Hart Center in Atlantic Hockey action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 10-16-7 overall (9-14-4 AHA), while the Huskies improve to 11-19-3 overall (10-14-3 AHA). These two teams will meet in the regular season finale on Saturday at UConn's Mark E. Freitas Ice Forum at 7:05 p.m.
The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Brendan Olinyk scored his first goal of the season. For the period, Holy Cross outshot UConn by a 9-7 margin, while The Crusaders went 0-1 on the power play.
UConn increased its lead to 2-0 when Chris Ochoa netted his eighth goal of the year. The Crusaders outshot the Huskies, 12-6, while Holy Cross went 0-2 on the man-advantage and UConn went 0-1.
With 1:19 left in the third period, Michael Coppola scored an empty-net goal for the 3-0 final score. The goal was his seventh of the season.
Freshman goalie Adam Roy (Feeding Hills, Mass.) made 21 saves for the Crusaders, while Beau Erickson stopped 27 shots for UConn. Holy Cross outshot the Huskies by a 27-24 margin, while the Crusaders went 0-4 on the power play and UConn went 0-3.
Before the game seniors Matt Burke (Milton, Mass.), Dale Reinhardt (Livingston, N.J.), Matt Werry (Regina, Saskatchewan), Brent Franklin (Grosse Point Farms, Mich.), Brian Gabriel (Kenai, Alaska), Bryce Nantes (Calgary, Alberta), Frank O'Grady (Kimberley, British Columbia), Cal St. Denis (Freelton, Ontario), Chris Trovato (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Jim Tselikis (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) were honored for their hard work and dedication to the team on and off the field.
