MILFORD, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to Sacred Heart, 4-0, on Saturday night at the Hart Center in Atlantic Hockey action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 10-15-7 overall (9-13-4 AHA), while the Pioneers improve to 14-15-3 overall (14-9-3 AHA). These two teams split the weekend home-and-home series, while they also split the four-game season series.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead at the 15:08 mark of the first period when Dave Jarman scored while on the power play for his 10th goal of the season. For the period, Sacred Heart outshot Holy Cross by a 12-7 margin, while the Crusaders went 0-1 on the power play and the Pioneers went 1-1.
Sacred Heart increased its lead to 2-0 with 49 seconds remaining in the second period when Nick Johnson netted a power play goal for his 11th goal of the year. The Crusaders outshot the Pioneers, 11-8, while Holy Cross went 0-1 on the man-advantage and Sacred Heart went 1-1.
The Pioneers made it a 3-0 game when they scored their third power play goal of the game with a goal by Alexandre Parent with 6:55 remaining in the third period. The goal was his 14th of the season. With 1:30 remaining, Paul Ferraro scored the fourth power play goal of the game for the Pioneers for the 4-0 final score. The goal was his fifth of the year.
Holy Cross sophomore goalie Ian Dams (Manotick, Ontario) made 24 saves, while Stefan Drew stopped 31 shots for Sacred Heart. The Crusaders had 31 shots and went 0-3 on the power play, while the Pioneers had 28 shots and went 4-6.
The Crusaders will conclude the regular season when they meet Atlantic Hockey opponent Connecticut on Friday and Saturday, February 29-March 1, in a home-and-home series. On Friday, the Crusaders will host the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. at the Hart Center for Senior Night, while on Saturday the two teams will play at UConn's Mark E. Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn., at 7:05 p.m.
