HC Defeated By Sacred Heart, 5-1

MILFORD, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to Sacred Heart, 5-1, on Friday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion in Atlantic Hockey action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 7-10-6 overall (6-8-3 AHA), while the Pioneers improve to 9-11-3 overall (9-5-3 AHA). These two teams will meet again on Saturday at the Hart Center at 7:00 p.m.
At the 11:19 mark of the first period, Sacred Heart's Eric Giosa made it a 1-0 game when he scored while on the power play for his eighth goal of the season. At 15:41, the Pioneers increased their lead to 2-0 when Giosa lifted the puck into the upper right corner of the net for his second goal of the game and ninth of the season. For the period, Sacred Heart outshot Holy Cross by an 11-5 margin, while the Crusaders went 0-3 on the power play and the Pioneers went 1-2.
The Pioneers made it a 3-0 game at 1:35 into the second period when Adam DeJong netted a power play goal for his fourth goal of the year. Matt Gordon increased the lead to 4-0 at the 4:52 mark with his third goal of the season. The Crusaders made it a 4-1 game at the 12:23 mark when senior forward Dale Reinhardt (Livingston, N.J.) scored his fifth goal of the season. Senior forward Cal St. Denis (Freelton, Ontario) sent a pass from behind the net to a waiting Reinhardt who then fired the puck into the goal. Sacred Heart regained its four-goal lead with a goal by Alexandre Parent at the 15:27 mark. The goal was Parent's ninth of the year. The Pioneers outshot the Crusaders, 21-9, while Holy Cross went 0-2 on the man-advantage and Sacred Heart went 1-1.
The third period went scoreless for the 5-1 final score.
Holy Cross freshman goalie Adam Roy (Feeding Hills, Mass.) made 33 saves, while Stefan Drew stopped 18 shots for the Pioneers. Sacred Heart outshot Holy Cross by a 38-19 margin, while the Crusaders went 0-7 on the power play and the Pioneers went 2-4.
