Milford, Conn. - Junior assistant captain Pierre Napert-Frenette (Bathurst, N.B.) netted his eighth goal of the season just 41 seconds into overtime to give the Holy Cross men's hockey team a 3-2 victory over Sacred Heart, Tuesday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion in an Atlantic Hockey game. Junior Tyler McGregor (Ajax, Ont.) and senior captain Andrew McKay (Bellefeuille, Que.) were credited with the assists.
With the win the Crusaders improve to 8-6-4 overall and 5-2-3 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Pioneers fall to 6-10-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the league.
The Crusaders evened the score with two power play goals in the second period. Sophomore James Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va.) found freshman Dale Reinhardt (Livingston, N.J.) barreling down the wing, who fed the puck to junior Andrew Weber (Hanson, Mass.), who netted his second tally of the season at 11:13.
Late in the second period Reinhardt took the puck out of the circle to Sixsmith, who found freshman Matt Burke (Milton, Mass.) in front of the crease at 17:24.
The Pioneers opened with a goal midway through the first stanza when freshman Nick Kary (Wetaskiwin, Alta.) took the puck from the right corner and found junior Rocco Molinaro (Dearborn, Mich.), who made a shot across the goal to senior Garrett Larson (Rycroft, Alta.), who netted the puck on netminder Tony Quesada's (South Freeport, Maine) stick side at 8:37.
Sacred Heart opened the second period with a goal by Larson at 1:31 to increase its margin by two. Molinaro and Kary assisted on the play.
Quesada (5-3-3) made 21 saves for the win, while senior Kevin LePointe (Quebec City, Que) halted 40 shots on goal for the Pioneers.
Holy Cross travels to West Springfield, Mass. to take on American International on Friday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
