WORCESTER, Mass – Holy Cross junior goalie Matt Ginn (Lindsay, Ontario) is on the Hobey Baker Award Fan Ballot on www.hobeybaker.com. Ginn's 619 saves this season are third in the country. He has played in 43 consecutive games which are tied for 20th on the NCAA Division I career list for consecutive games played by a goalie. His 2,242 saves, 40 victories, 84 games played and 5020:33 minutes played are all the second most by Division I goaltenders for a career at the school.
As college hockey enters the second half of the season, fans of the collegiate game can now help determine the winner of the 2014 Hobey Baker Award. This first phase of fan balloting will run now through March 9, 2014. Phase two of fan balloting will begin on March 20 from the list of Top 10 Hobey Baker finalists. The fans' vote accounts for 1 percent of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year's award recipient.
Award criteria include candidates emulating the exceptional character traits exhibited by the award's namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
