WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross will play host to the 2016 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey Northeast Regional at the DCU Center in Worcester on March 25-26, 2016. Holy Cross, which will be hosting the Northeast Regional this season on March 29-30, 2014, previously held this event at the DCU Center in 2008, 2010 and 2012.
The 2016 event will mark the 14th overall time that the regional will take place at the DCU Center. Ten of the 12 teams to win the regional in Worcester have gone on to play in the national championship game, with six of those teams winning the national title. The total of 42 NCAA regional hockey games which have been played at the DCU Center are currently the most in the 66 year history of the Division I men's ice hockey tournament.
"We really want to thank everyone who put in a bid," said Mark Lewis, NCAA executive vice president of championships and alliances. "The competitiveness of the bids made it extremely difficult for the sport committees to select sites as there just weren't spots for all of the great bids we received. Ultimately the sites that were selected will provide our student-athletes, coaches and fans the best experience possible."
