READING, Pa. – Recent graduate Rob Linsmayer (Winnetka, Ill.) will join the ECHL's Reading Royals for the 2013-2014 season. The Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals, along with the AHL's Hershey Bears. They open their season at home on October 19 against the South Carolina Stingrays.
Linsmayer played four games for the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads during the 2012-2013 season. He scored his first professional goal in a 5-0 win over the San Francisco Bulls on March 29, 2013.
Linsmayer played in a school record 150 career games at Holy Cross with 31 goals and 69 assists, leading the class with a total of 100 points. As a senior assistant captain, the forward played in 36 games for the Crusaders, scoring 27 points on seven goals and 20 assists. He is the all-time leader for games played in school history, while he is tied for eighth in career assists in D1 program history with 69. His 100 points move him to 10th in D1 history for career points tallied. As a freshman he won the team's Seventh Player Award, while as a sophomore he was a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award and earned the Atlantic Hockey Best Defensive Forward Award. He was a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy and was named to the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team. Linsmayer also participated in the 2012 San Jose Sharks NHL development camp and the 2013 Washington Capitals NHL development camp.
