WHEELING, W.Va. – Former Holy Cross men's hockey player Kyle Fletcher (Kanata, Ontario) returns to the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers for the 2013-2014 season. Fletcher has officially signed an ECHL contract after his Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) in March. The Nailers are the affiliate of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, along with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs and Wilkes Barre / Scranton Penguins.
Fletcher made his professional debut with the team on March 20 and took the ice for the following four games. During his five games with the Nailers, Fletcher netted his first career professional point with an assist in a 6-2 victory over the Elmira Jackals. The Nailers will begin their 2013-2014 regular season with a game on Oct. 18 at home against Elmira.
Fletcher played in 108 career games at Holy Cross with 33 goals and 49 assists for 82 points. He was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week three times during his career. This past season he tied for second on the team with 16 assists, while he also tallied 10 goals for 26 points. He also holds the school record for the fastest consecutive goals by a single player, scoring two goals 0:12 apart against AIC on Feb. 5, 2011. Fletcher led the team as a sophomore with 38 points. Also as a sophomore he won the team's Seventh Player Award and was a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy as a junior.
