READING, Pa. – First year pro and 2012 Holy Cross graduate Jay Silvia (Burlington, Mass.) has agreed to terms with the ECHL's Reading Royals. The forward is the 16th player announced as signed by the Royals for the 2012-2013 season. The Royals are the affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals and the AHL's Hershey Bears. They open the 2012-13 regular season in Elmira, N.Y., on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, when the team will take on the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 pm.
Silvia played in 140 career games at Holy Cross which are tied for seventh all-time at the school. His 34 career goals and 10 game-winning goals were the most by any current member of the team. He also posted 30 assists for 64 career points. Over his career he was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week, the AHA Rookie of the Week, the AT&T Crusader of the Week and won the team's Seventh Player Award. As a senior he won the Dr. James M. Stewart Memorial Award, the Coaches Award given for commitment, leadership and performance. Last season, he played in all 39 games with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. He was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team both junior and senior year.
Following his collegiate career at Holy Cross, Silvia made an appearance in two games for the AHL's Worcester Sharks, affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks.
