WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior defenseman Mike Daly (South Burlington, Vt.), a member of the men's ice hockey team, received the John P. Cooney Memorial Award. The award was presented at the 57th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Satruday, May 5.
The Cooney Award is presented each year to a senior letterwinner who has performed beyond all expectations with courage, loyalty and dedication. Daly played in 28 games for the Crusaders this season, scoring 21 points on one goal and a team-best 20 assists. He was also part of a Holy Cross defense which ranked 20th in the nation during the 2009-2010 campaign by allowing just 2.76 goals per game. Daly received the Tomasell Unsung Hero Award from the New England Hockey Writers in 2010-2011, and was a two-time recipient of the team's Glenn Crane Award as the player who excels in the little things necessary to win. Over the course of his collegiate career, he totaled nine goals and 50 assists for 59 points in 137 games played.
Off the ice, Daly was a three-time selection to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team, in addition to earning Capitol One Academic All-District honors in 2010-2011. In addition, he volunteered for Catholic Charities at the Worcester Food Bank and participated in the Crusaders for Kids reading program.
