STOCKTON, Calif. – Holy Cross graduating senior defenseman Matt Clune (Toronto, Ontario) has signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) with the ECHL's Stockton Thunder. The Thunder are the affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, along with the AHL's Oklahoma City Barons and Worcester Sharks. The Thunder have six regular season games left on their schedule.
"Matt comes from a great program at Holy Cross that has grown a recent reputation of producing good talent," said Thunder head coach Matt Thomas. "When speaking with coaches from that area you learn about the positive things they have to say about him and his game. Many of us recall his brother during his time in minors. They're kids that play the game with a hard-nosed approach."
Clune played in 140 career games which are seventh all-time at the school in games played. This season, he posted a career-best 16 assists and 20 points. His 16 assists were fourth on the team. For his career he tallied 14 goals and 39 assists for 53 points. He is a two-time member of the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team.
