Adam Schmidt Named AHA Player Of The Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore forward Adam Schmidt (Warrington, Pa.) has been named the Team Travel USA Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week for his five-point performance in a two-game series versus Bentley on Feb. 24-25. Schmidt posted four goals and one assist for five points on the week. This is the first time in his career that he has earned this honor, while this is his second career weekly award as he was named the Rookie of the Week on March 14, 2011.

On Friday, he scored the first goal of the game and also added an assist in the 2-2 tie. On Saturday, he tallied three goals including the game-winner for his first career hat-trick in the 6-4 victory. Schmidt has posted at least one point in eight straight games as he has seven goals and nine assists for 16 points over that stretch. Schmidt leads the team this season with a career-best 15 goals and a career-best 32 points, while he is tied for first with a career-best 17 assists. His career-best six power play goals also lead the team. For his career, he has 21 goals and 32 assists for 53 points in 70 contests.

The No. 5 seeded Crusaders (17-13-4, 15-8-4 Atlantic Hockey) will square off against the No. 12 seed Army (4-21-7, 3-19-5 Atlantic Hockey) in a best two-out-of-three Atlantic Hockey Tournament first round series at the Hart Center on March 2-4 at 7:00 p.m. The Crusaders are 7-0-1 in their last eight games as they have outscored their opponents by a 37-13 margin. With a series win, the Crusaders will qualify for the quarterfinals as they are their looking to earn their third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. The Crusaders swept the Black Knights this season winning by a 3-1 score on Dec. 10 in Worcester, Mass., while they won 6-1 on Feb. 10 and 4-2 on Feb. 11 in West Point, N.Y.
