WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey program has named senior defenseman Mike Daly (South Burlington, Vt.) as captain for the 2011-2012 season.
This season Daly won the Joe Tomasello Unsung Hero Award given by the New England Hockey Writers. This award is voted on by all Division I coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England. Also Daly won the Glenn "Spike" Crane Memorial Award which is given to the player who excels most in the little things and leads his teammates by example. This is the second straight season that Daly has earned this team honor. He recorded a career-best 15 assists and 18 points, while he also tallied three goals.
As a sophomore he was named to the Ledyard National Bank Classic All-Tournament team and earned AT&T Crusader of the Week accolades, as he scored his first collegiate game-winning goal and had one assist for two points against Dartmouth as the team won 4-2. He received the Michael P. Quinn Award also in 2009-2010 which is given to the best defensive Holy Cross hockey player over the course of the season. Daly is a two-time member of the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team. For his career he has recorded eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points in 109 games.
The Crusaders return 22 players from the 2010-2011 season. The Crusaders concluded the season with a 17-16-5 overall record.
