Mike Daly Wins Tomasello Unsung Hero Award
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior defenseman Mike Daly (South Burlington, Vt.) has won the Joe Tomasello Unsung Hero Award given by the New England Hockey Writers. This award is voted on by all Division I coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England. This year's banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 13 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The banquet will start at 6:00 p.m. All awards and All-Star teams will be presented at the gala.
"The committee could not have found a more deserving winner than Mike," said Holy Cross coach Paul Pearl. "He quietly goes about his work and is one of the best defenders in the AHA."
This season Daly recorded a career-best 15 assists and 18 points, while he also tallied three goals. As a sophomore he was named to the Ledyard National Bank Classic All-Tournament team and earned AT&T Crusader of the Week accolades, as he scored his first collegiate game-winning goal and had one assist for two points against Dartmouth as the team won 4-2. Also as a sophomore he was awarded the Glenn "Spike" Crane Memorial Award which is given to the player who excels most in the little things and leads his teammates by example. He received the Michael P. Quinn Award also in 2009-2010 which is given to the best defenseman on the team over the course of the season.
Daly is a two-time member of the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team. For his career he has recorded eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points in 109 games.
