WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr., and head men's hockey coach Paul Pearl have announced the Crusaders' schedule for the 2010-2011 season. There will be a total of 16 home games at the Hart Center for Holy Cross this season, beginning with a scrimmage against American International on Oct. 3. The Crusaders will start the regular season competing in the Ice Breaker tournament in St. Louis, Mo., on Friday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 10. The Crusaders will play Notre Dame on Friday, and then either take on 2010 NCAA Tournament finalist Wisconsin or Boston University on Sunday.
Along with the Ice Breaker Tournament, the Crusaders will play five more non-conference games. Holy Cross will travel to face Quinnipiac (Oct 23) and Northeastern (Oct 29), and host Providence (Nov. 27). The Crusaders will compete in the UConn Classic on Dec. 29-30, against conference opponent UConn and then either Bowling Green or Princeton. Holy Cross will also travel to take on 2010 NCAA Tournament quarterfinalist Yale (Jan 2).
Atlantic Hockey welcomes the addition of Robert Morris and Niagara moving the number of teams in the league to 12. Holy Cross will play five teams three times (AIC, Army, Bentley, UConn and Sacred Heart), while the Crusaders will play six teams twice (Air Force, Canisius, Mercyhurst, Niagara, RIT and Robert Morris). The Crusaders will play two home contests versus 2010 NCAA Tournament semifinalist RIT on Jan. 21-22.
All 12 teams will compete in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament. The first round is on March 5, while the best-two-out-of-three quarterfinals will be on March 11-13. The semifinals (March 18) and the finals (March 19) will be held in Rochester, N.Y.
The Crusaders return 22 letterwinners and four starters from last season.
