WORCESTER, Mass. -
Holy Cross senior Brodie Sheahan's (Lethbridge,
Alberta) unassisted goal with 3:55 remaining in the third
period lifted the Holy Cross men's hockey team to a 2-2 tie with
Air Force Saturday night at the Hart Center. With the tie, the
Crusaders are now 3-5-2 (3-3-2 Atlantic Hockey), while the Falcons
now sit at 5-5-2 (5-1-2 Atlantic Hockey). Air Force took the
weekend series, 1-0-1, and captured three of four possible
points.
Holy Cross opened the scoring when freshman Brandon Nunn
(Fairport, N.Y.) netted his first collegiate goal 10:46
into the second period. He stickhandled through the slot and
wristed a shot on Falcon goaltender Andrew Volkening. Volkening got
a piece of the puck, but it slid across the line to give the
Crusaders a 1-0 lead. Freshmen Kyle Fletcher (Kanata,
Ontario) and Rob Linsmayer (Winnetka,
Ill.) tallied assists.
Air Force responded with two special-teams goals in the third
period. Matt Fairchild pulled the Falcons even at 1-1 on the power
play 5:25 into the frame. 1:36 later, Paul Weisgarber beat Crusader
freshman netminder Thomas Tysowsky (Amherst, N.Y.)
on the far post with a wrist shot on a shorthanded two-on-one to
give Air Force a 2-1 lead.
In overtime, it appeared as though the Crusaders had won the game
when Fletcher found a loose puck in front of Volkening and slid it
through his pads, but the net had been knocked off its moorings and
the officials disallowed the goal.
The Crusaders return to action Friday-Saturday, Nov. 20-21, when
they travel to Erie, Pa. to take on Mercyhurst. Friday's game is
scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and Saturday's contest will start at 4:00
p.m.
