Men's Hockey Shut Out By AIC, 3-0
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - AIC freshman goalie Ben Meisner earned a shutout with 30 saves as the Holy Cross men's hockey team fell to American International, 3-0, on Friday night at the Olympia Ice Center. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-3-0 overall (2-1-0 Atlantic Hockey), while the Yellow Jackets improve to 1-3-0 (1-1-0 Atlantic Hockey). These two teams will conclude their home-and-home series on Saturday, Oct. 31, with Holy Cross' home-opener at the Hart Center at 7:00 p.m.
AIC jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 3:53 of the first period with a goal by Josh Froese. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 2-0 at 10:00, when Mike McMillan netted a shorthanded goal. At 7:25 the Crusaders went on a two-man-advantage power play for 1:14 but were unable to convert. For the period, AIC outshot Holy Cross, 14-5, while the Crusaders went 0-3 on the power play and the Yellow Jackets went 0-1.
The second period went scoreless as Holy Cross outshot AIC by an 11-9 margin and each team went 0-2 on the man-advantage.
The Crusaders went with an empty-net with 2:28 left to go, but Jeff Ceccacci scored an empty net goal with 31 seconds remaining for the 3-0 final score.
Freshman goalie Thomas Tysowsky (Amherst, N.Y.) stopped 24 shots. Holy Cross outshot AIC, 30-27, while the Crusaders went 0-5 on the power play and the Yellow Jackets went 0-3.
