DANBURY, Conn. - Holy Cross junior golfer Matt Czarnecki (Greenwich, Conn.) earned low amateur honors at the 72nd annual Connecticut Open Championship, held from August 7-9 at the Ridgewood Country Club. Czarnecki finished in sixth place overall in the tournament, with a three round total of 219 (six over par).
In the opening round, Czarnecki shot a three-over-par 74. He then matched that score with another 74 in the second round. On the final day of the tournament, Czarnecki shot an ever-par 71, good for the second-best round of the day.
The tournament was won by professional Nick Cook, with a three-round total of 211 (two under par).
Czarnecki and the Crusaders will open the 2006 fall season on September 16-17, when they take part in the Blue Devil Invitational, at the Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, Conn.
