June 19, 2007

WORCESTER, Mass. - With the 2006-2007 season now complete, the Holy Cross men's golf team is looking ahead to the 2007-2008 campaign. Five of the top players off of last year's squad will return, led by senior Matt Czarnecki (Greenwich, Conn.), who averaged 75.6 strokes per round. Joining Czarnecki on the roster will be senior Joe Hajjar (Mahwah, N.J.), senior Ryan Kenny (Medford, Mass.), junior Brian Flood (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and sophomore Anthony Ardito (Portland, Maine).

All other players off the 2006-2007 roster, in addition to all prospective candidates for the team, must qualify for the remaining spots.

The qualifying tournament will be held on September 1, 2, 8 and 9 at Heritage Golf Club in Charlton, Mass. Tee times will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Sept. 1 and 2, while the tee time will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 7:15 a.m. on the 9th. The qualifier will be played over 72 holes (medal play), with a cut to the low 10 scores and ties after 36 holes.

Any Holy Cross student wishing to enter in the qualifying tournament should contact head coach Bob Molt at (978) 838-2333, no later than 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30. All players trying to qualify must have a verified handicap of eight strokes or less.

Van transportation will be provided to and from the golf course. Those needing transportation must be in front of the Hogan Center by 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 1 and 2, 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 8 and 6:00 a.m. on the 9th. You must have your clubs with you. If you have a car, it would be appreciated if you could be in front of the Hogan Center at the above times to help transport players.

In the event a round or rounds can not be completed due to darkness or inclement weather, players will be given pars for the holes that they did not complete. All players will play the same number of holes. Rain in itself will not cancel the qualifying rounds, as long as the course is playable.

Players are responsible for their own practice rounds. To make a tee time, call (508) 248-2591.
