Holy Cross Prepares For 2009 Patriot League Championship

  • The Crusaders wrap up the 2008-2009 season on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, when they take part in Patriot League Championship, to be held at the West Point Golf Course in West Point, N.Y. The Patriot League Championship will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.
  • In its last meet, Holy Cross finished in eighth place out of 10 schools at the Northeast Invitational, held at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I., on April 17. The Crusaders had a team total of 656 strokes over two rounds.
  • Senior Joe DePanfilis (Kenne, N.H.) turned in an outstanding performance at the Northeast Invitational, leading the team with a 13th place finish. DePanfilis shot a 75 in the first round and a 78 in the second round, for a total of 153 strokes. He now leads the team with an average of 81.0 strokes per round this season, and has posted the best score on the team in two of the last three tournaments.
  • Sophomore James Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) had the second-best score on the team at the Northeast Invitational with 165 strokes, to finish in 38th place overall. He shot a 77 in the opening round, before carding an 88 in the second round. On the season, Widman is now averaging 81.1 strokes per round, good for the second-best average on the team.
