Crusaders Place Fifth At Central Connecticut

New Britian, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's golf team gave a strong showing at the CCSU Invitational on the Stanley Golf Course, finishing in fifth place with an final score of 464 after two rounds.
After Saturday's round was cancelled due to inclement weather, the Crusaders participated in a shortened 27-hole tournament posting a first-round score of 301, followed by a nine-hole round of 163.
The Crusaders were led by two golfers, freshman Joe Hajjar (Mahwah, N.J.) and sophomore Chris Gorczyca (Mashpee, Mass.), who both tied for 13th place. Hajjar finished one above par-71 in the first-round for the team's low round of the day, but slumped to seven above par 36 in the second for final total of 115. Gorczyca was five about par-71 in the first-round and shot a second-round score of 39.
Sophomore Mike Povemba (White Plains, N.Y.) finished at No. 25 for the Crusaders compiling a final score of 118 (74-44).
Rounding out the field for the Crusaders was senior Emmit Ferriter (W. Simsbury, Conn.) who finished 39th (79-43) with a final tally of 122 and freshman Matt Czarnecki (Greenwich, Conn.) with a final score of 125 (87-38) good enough for 45th place.
Holy Cross returns to action Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 2-3 at the Black Knight Invitational, at the West Point Golf Club, West Point, N.Y.
