Holy Cross Men's Golf Places 19th At NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. - Junior Matt Czarnecki (Greenwich, Conn.) shot a nine-over-par 153 over two rounds, to lead the Holy Cross men's golf team to a 19th place finish out of 43 schools at the 72nd annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, played at the Captains Golf Course. Czarnecki, who shot a 74 in the first round and a 79 in the second round, finished in 22nd place overall.

As a team, Holy Cross concluded the meet at 66-over-par, with a total of 642 strokes. Rhode Island claimed the team title with a 12-over-par total of 588 strokes, and the Rams' Ben Spitz earned individual medalist honors with a one-under-par 143.

Junior Ryan Kenny (Medford, Mass.) had a strong tournament for Holy Cross, placing 45th with a 13-over-par 157, while junior Joe Hajjar (Mahwah, N.J.) came in 104th with a 20-over-par 164. Rounding out the Crusaders' lineup, freshman Anthony Ardito (Portland, Maine) carded a 24-over-par 168, while senior Chris Gorczyca (Mashpee, Mass.) finished with a 37-over-par 181.

The Holy Cross golf team has now concluded the fall portion of its schedule, and will return to action in March.
