PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Holy Cross men's golf team finished in 15th place at the 2007 New England Division I Championship, which was held at the Triggs Memorial Golf Course. The Crusaders finished the tournament with a total of 329 strokes. Sacred Heart won the event with 296 strokes, while Army's Joe Beverly and Brown's Larry Haertel tied for the lowest round of the tournament with one-under par totals of 71. Haertel took home medalist honors, winning on the first hole of a playoff.
The New England Championship was originally scheduled for two rounds of competition over two days, but play on Sunday was cancelled due the weather.
Junior Joe Hajjar (Mahwah, N.J.) and junior Matt Czarnecki (Greenwich, Conn.) led Holy Cross with rounds of 80, and to finish tied for 45th place. Junior Ryan Kenny (Medford, Mass.) finished in 67th place with 83 strokes, while freshman Anthony Ardito (Portland, Maine) was 74th (86 strokes) and freshman Taylor Scott (Meredith, N.H.) was 80th (89 strokes).
Holy Cross returns to action next Saturday and Sunday, April
21-22, when it takes part in the Patriot League Championship at
West Point, N.Y.
