Bob Molt is in his 39th season as the head men’s golf coach at the College of the Holy Cross in 2014-2015. Molt also served as the head women's golf coach from the beginning of the program through the 2012-2013 season.
In 2013-2014, five men's golfers earned spots on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. In addition, the Crusaders finished in second place at the Joe Plante Invitational. During the 2012-2013 campaign, two Holy Cross players (Steve Zychowski and Kelly Reagan) were named to the Academic All Patriot League Team. In addition, four players from both the men’s and women’s teams earned spots on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The men’s team placed first in the Assumption Shootout, while Zychowski earned a pair of medalist honors during the season. The women’s squad captured its first multi-team tournament victory in school history at the Nazareth Invitational, as Morgan Powers also recorded the program’s first-ever medalist accolade to win the tournament.
Recently, Molt’s players have reached great success as Meghan Doherty became the only female golfer to play with the men’s team in program history during the 2009-2010 season. Zychowski qualified to play in the United States Amateur Championship in both 2010 and 2012, and is a two-time first team All-Patriot League selection. Academically, Molt’s men’s squad placed a league-best nine members on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2011-2012, while five women were named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll that same year.
Molt took over the program in the fall of 1976, following the retirement of Gerry Anderson. He has led the teams to a great deal of success, with the men’s squad making back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 1982 and 1983, in addition to claiming a number of Worcester City championships. In October of 2006, Molt received the Gordon McCullough Coaching Award from the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association. The McCullough Award is presented annually to a coach for outstanding dedication to college golf, and for contributions to players, fellow coaches and golf committees at local and regional levels.
Molt is a 1972 graduate of the University of Arizona, and is a PGA Professional. He served as the Director of Golf at Pleasant Valley Country Club for 22 years, and currently owns and operates the South Meadow Golf Center. Molt has played on the PGA Tour and numerous other tournaments, both overseas and in the United States. Coach Molt offers a wealth of experience not only as a golf coach, but also as a teacher of the game.
Bob Molt on the Holy Cross Golf Program
“Holy Cross plays a full schedule in both the fall and spring. Our tournament itinerary is very similar to that of other colleges and universities in New England.
“The golf team plays at the prestigious Blackstone Valley National Golf Club. We also practice at the South Meadow Golf Center. Both of these facilities are just a 15-minute drive from campus.”
