DAVIDSON, N.C. – Holy Cross senior Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) tied for 24th place as the men's golf team finished 11th overall at the two-day Davidson Invitational held at the Par-72 River Run Country Club on March 4-5. Zychowski recorded a two-round score of 154 (+10) as the team combined to shoot a total of 666 strokes (+90).
Davidson claimed the tournament crown with a team score of 596 (+20). Finishing in second place was Marshall (600), as there was a three-way tie for third place between Radford, Elon and Gardner-Webb, all with scores of 608.
Zychowski shot an 80 (+8) in the first round of the tournament, but came back with a plus-two (74) scorecard on Tuesday. Senior Michael McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) finished tied for 53rd with a two-day score of 166 (+22), while senior Roberto Machado (Miami, Fla.) and third-year Tim DiStefano (Albany, N.Y.) both carded 173 (+29), which was good for 57th place.
Junior Peter Cahill (Wellesley, Mass.) rounded out the team with a total of 179 strokes (+35) and a 60th place finish. Sophomore John Reali (Searingtown, N.Y.) competed as an individual at the tournament as he finished tied for 48th place with a score of plus-18 (162).
The Crusaders return to action on March 30, when they will compete in the Bentley Cape Cod Classic held at The Bay Pointe Country Club in Onset, Mass.
