Crusaders Round Out Fall Slate At Two Tournaments

Schedule: Saturday-Sunday Oct.15-16, Classic at Shelter Harbor, Charlestown, R.I., 8:00 a.m.
Monday-Tuesday Oct. 17-18, NEIGA Championship, Brewster, Mass., 8:00 a.m.

  • The Holy Cross men's golf team completes its fall slate with two events this upcoming week, starting with the Classic at Shelter Harbor on Oct. 15-16. The squad completes the fall at the NEIGA Championship held from Oct. 17-18. The first event will be held at the Shelter Harbor Golf Club in Charlestown, R.I. while the NEIGA Championship takes place at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. Tee times are set for 8:00 a.m. at both tournaments.
  • This will be the second annual Classic at Shelter Harbor and is hosted by Rhode Island. The Crusaders competed in the event last fall, finishing 15th out of 16 teams. Michael McCarthy, who is studying abroad this year, led the squad with two-round score of 150. He tied for 19th overall.
  • The Crusaders finished their fall at the NEIGA Championship last year as well. In 2010, the squad finished in fourth place out of 37 teams. Two golfers finished in the top-10 individually as former Crusader Colin Andrade tied for third place. Junior Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) finished in a tie for eighth place, tallying a two-round score of 147. Rhode Island took home the team crown.
  • For the second season in a row, Holy Cross was crowned the team champions of the Assumption Shootout, held on Oct. 4. Senior captain Andrew Wong (Wailuku, Hawaii) paced the squad with a career-low round of 74 and tied for third individually. Wong's top team finish was the first of the season as he currently ranks second on the team with a 78 strokes average.
