Men's Golf Wins Assumption Shootout For Second Straight Year

SUTTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's golf team won the team championship for the second straight season with a total score of 308 in the Assumption Shootout at the Pleasant Valley Country Club. Senior captain Andrew Wong (Wailuku, Hawaii) led the Crusaders for the first time this season with a career-low round of 74. Richie Powers of Bentley won the tournament with a low-round of 72.

Junior Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) finished behind Wong with a 77 while fellow junior Roberto Machado (Miami, Fla.) came in right behind Zychowski with a 78. Sophomore Matt Campbell (York, Maine) and freshman Connor Burfeind (Falmouth, Maine), making his career debut, rounded out the team's performances with respective rounds of 79 and 85.

The Crusaders return to action in one week, competing at the Northeast Invitational. The tournament will be held from Oct. 15-16 at the Shelter Harbor Golf Club in Charlestown, R.I.
