NEWPORT, R.I. – The Holy Cross men's golf team placed 15th out of 19 teams with a total two-day score of 921 at the Adams Cup at the Newport Country Club. Junior Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) led the Crusaders for the second straight event, finishing in a tie for 23rd with a three-round tally of 220. Ricardo Gouveia of Central Florida won the cup with a final score of 204 (12-under par).
Zychowski recorded the lowest round on the team, shooting a par-72 in the second round. Fellow junior Roberto Machado (Miami, Fla.) followed Zychowski with a score of 231 and tied for 65th. Rounding out the Crusaders' performances were scores of 236 from freshman John Reali (Searingtown, N.Y.), a 238 by sophomore Tim DiStefano (Albany, N.Y.) and a 244 by senior Andrew Wong (Wailuku, Hawaii). Central Florida took the team crown with a combined score of 842.
The Crusaders return to action in the Hartford Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 26-27. The event will take place at the Bull's Bridge Golf Course in South Kent, Conn.
