WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore golfer Michael McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) has been selected to the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League team, as voted on by league sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport.
A member of the 2010 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, McCarthy finished second on the team with a 76.9 strokes average and earned his second consecutive second team All-Patriot League honor after finishing 10th at the 2011 Patriot League Championship. He also tied his career-low round of 71 at the championship and was named to the first team All-New England as a freshman. Academically, he has a 3.39 grade point average and is majoring in Psychology.
The Academic All-Patriot League team has been added for all sports beginning in the 2010-2011 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The men's golf Academic All-Patriot League team has five student-athletes to equal the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team.
