ANNAPOLIS, MD. – Sophomore Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) tallied a three-round score of 216, including a championship-low round of 70 in the third round, leading the Holy Cross men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the two-day Patriot League Championship, held at the United States Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md. The Crusaders finished the championship with a total of 896 strokes (+44) as Zychowski tied for fourth individually. Army took home the Patriot League Championship crown with a team score of 213 (E).
Holy Cross' fourth-place finish tied its best finish in program history, also achieved in 2008. Following Zychowsi was sophomore Michael McCarthy's (Tolland, Conn.) three-day total of 220 strokes and a 10th place finish. Rounding out Holy Cross' performances was a 231 by sophomore Roberto Machado (Miami, Fla.), a 235 by senior Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.) and respective scores of 238 and 241 from senior Tim McGovern (Oradell, N.J.) and freshman Tim DiStefano (Albany, N.Y.). Army's Matt Krembel took the individual title, finishing with an even score of 213.
Because of his top finish, Zychowski was named to the first team All-Patriot League for the second straight season. Five players were named to the second team, including McCarthy, who earns the honor for the second straight season as well. The 2011 Patriot League Golf Championship marks the final event for the Holy Cross men's golf team this season.
