Zychowski Shares Piece Of Individual Crown At Yale Spring Opener
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) scored rounds of 71 and 75 and finished in a three-way tie for the individual crown as the Holy Cross men's golf team tied for eighth overall at the Yale Spring Opener, held at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. As a team, the Crusaders finished with 623 total strokes, tying Patriot League foe Lafayette.
Zychowski would tally his third top-10 performance and first piece of an individual title this season, leading the team individually for the fourth time overall. Sophomore Michael McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) finished next, scoring a 158 to tie for 35th. Sophomore Roberto Machado (Miami, Fla.) followed three placements behind McCarthy, tying for 38th with a 159. Rounding out the scoring was senior Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.), with a 168, junior Andrew Wong (Wailuku, Hawaii) with a 162 and freshman Matt Campbell (York, Maine) with a 167.
Rhode Island won the team title with 587 strokes. Sharing the individual crown with Zychowski was Rhode Island's Andrew Fiorenzano and Harvard's Mark Pollak.
The Crusaders return to action next weekend, competing in the New England Division I Championship. The tournament will be held from April 9-10 at the Newport National Golf Club in Newport, R.I.
