Crusaders Set For Yale Spring Open This Weekend
Schedule: Saturday, April 2, At Yale Spring Open, New Haven, Conn.
- The Holy Cross men's golf team returns to the green on April 2 for the Yale Spring Open, held at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. The event will be played all day. Last season, the Crusaders placed eighth of 12 teams. Host Yale won the event with a team total of 582 strokes. Holy Cross was 31 strokes off the lead.
- Junior James Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) paced the team for the first time last season at the Open, marking a two round score of 152. Widman currently averages 80.5 strokes per round this year and has played in a total of 10 rounds.
- The men's golf team was selected to finish seventh in the 2011 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. The Navy Midshipmen were picked first, earning 69 points and 10 first-place votes.
- Sophomores Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) and Michael McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) earned All-Patriot League honors after their performances at the 2010 Patriot League Championship. Zychowski was named to the first team after finishing fourth and McCarthy was a second team honoree after finishing 10th.
