WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross men's golf coach Bob Molt has announced the details of the qualifier for the 2010-2011 team. Senior captains Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.), Tim McGovern (Oradell, N.J.) and James Widman (Middlebury, Conn.), along with fellow classmate James Burokas (Brant Rock, Mass.), juniors John Weber (Branford, Conn.) and Andrew Wong (Wailuku, Hawaii), sophomores Michael McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.), Roberto Machado and Steven Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.), and freshman recruit Matt Campbell (York, Maine) are exempt from qualifying for the team and will be on the 2010-2011 roster. All other players off the 2009-2010 roster and prospective candidates for the team must qualify for the four remaining spots on the roster.
The qualifying tournament will be held on Sept. 4 and 5 at the Heritage Golf Club in Charlton, Mass. Play will start at 1:00 p.m. each day. The qualifier will be played over 36 holes with the top four scorers qualifying for the 2010-2011 team. Players wanting to play in the qualifier for the team must have a handicap of five strokes or less. This must be verified via a current handicap card or a letter from your club professional. Prospective qualifiers must fax a copy of their current HDCP Card to Golf Coach Bob Molt at (508) 793-3863. They must also fax their name, cell phone #, and year they will be at Holy Cross this fall (Fr., So., Jr., Sr.). This information must be received by August 31, 2010.
Van transportation will be provided to and from the golf course. Those needing transportation must be at the front of the Hogan Center at 1 hour and 15 minutes before the tee times listed above. You must have your clubs with you. Vans will depart promptly at noon. If you have a car it would be appreciated if you could be at the Hogan Center at noon to help transport players.
If a round or rounds cannot be completed due to darkness or inclement weather, players will be given pars for the holes they did not complete. All players will play the same number of holes. Rain will not cancel qualifying rounds as long as the course is playable. Players are responsible for their own practice rounds. Call the course to make a tee time at 508-248-2591.
