Men's Golf Preps For 2010 Patriot League Championship

  • The Holy Cross men's golf team used last week to practice and prepare for the 2010 Patriot League Men's Golf Championship, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25. Tee times are set for 8:00 a.m. both days at the Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y.
  • Holy Cross has multiple players that competed in last year's Patriot League Championship, including juniors James Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) and Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.). Last year, Widman and fellow classmate Tim McGovern (Oradell, N.J.) tied for 32nd place with three-round totals of 238 strokes to lead the team as the Holy Cross men's golf team finished in seventh place at the Patriot League Championship, held at the West Point Golf Course in West Point, N.Y. Andrade and junior John Weber (Branford, Conn.) tied for 38th place with three-round totals of 246 strokes to round out the team's performances. Bucknell claimed the 2009 team title with 884 strokes. The Bison were picked as the preseason favorite for this year's Patriot League Championship as Holy Cross was picked seventh.
  • The team marked its best performance in program history at the 2008 Patriot League Championship. That year, the squad finished in fourth place out of the seven teams and had two second team All-Patriot League selections. Widman is the only player on the current roster to have competed in the historical event, and finished in a tie for 25th with a three-round score of 249.
