STOW, Mass. – Holy Cross junior Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.) shot a 74 and won a three-way playoff with a birdie on the first hole to win the individual championship at the Lou Flumere Invitational, held at the Stow Acres Country Club on Wednesday. This is the first time that a Crusader has won an individual tournament title since Matt Czarnecki won the 2007 Patriot League championship. The Crusaders finished in second place out of 15 teams in the team competition as Holy Cross had a total score of 307, while Salem State won the title with a score of 305. The Holy Cross B team placed ninth with a total score of 325.
Freshman Michael McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) was also impressive as he tied for fifth with a round of 76. Freshman Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) had a 77 which tied him for 12th, while junior John Weber (Branford, Conn.) tied for 15th with a 78 to lead Holy Cross B. Two Crusders shot a round of 80 as junior James Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) and senior Taylor Scott (Meredith, N.H.) each tied for 24th.
The Crusaders return to action with a trip to the New England Division I Championship, held on Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11, in Providence, R.I.
