Men's Golf Action Heats Up With Two Tournaments

- The Holy Cross men’s golf team competes in two events this upcoming week, starting with the locally based Lou Flumere Invitational on Wednesday, April 7. Tee times are set for 9:00 a.m. at the Stow Country Club in Stow, Mass. The team finished 11th out of 20 teams last year with junior James Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) topping the team leader board with an 11th place finish. The Crusaders had a total score of 333, while Salem State won the meet with a score of 302.
- The Crusaders complete the week with a trip to the New England Division I Championship, held on Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11. The championship will be held in Providence, R.I. and will be the third time in five years that the team has competed at the event. The team finished in seventh place back in 2008, as Widman, then a freshman, tied for 17th place with a two-round score of 151 to lead the Crusaders.
- Widman tallied his first team-leading performance this past weekend at the Yale Spring Open, marking a two round score of 152 and tying for 26th individually. Freshman Robert Machado (Miami, Fla.), playing for the first time this spring at the Open, tallied career bests with rounds of 78 and 76 to place second on the team and in a tie for 33 individually with a final score of 154.
