Men's Golf Takes 11th At George Washington Invitational
BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Freshman Mike McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) continued his impressive showings with a three-round score of 225, leading the Holy Cross men’s golf team to an 11th place finish at the George Washington Invite at the Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Bethany Beach, Del. McCarthy tops the team’s individual performers for the fourth time this season, placing 33rd individually. As a team, the Crusaders finished with 930 strokes for the two-day event.
Holy Cross was in 12th place after Friday’s first two rounds as McCarthy marked scores of 75 and 76 to lead the team. McCarthy then completed the second day with a tournament-low round of 74. Junior Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.) followed McCarthy’s performance with a three-round score of 231, tying for 48th individually. Freshman Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) tied his season-low round of 72 on Saturday finishing in a tie for 65 individually with a total score of 237.
Missouri won the competition with 820 strokes, collecting the first, second and third individual placements as well. Missouri’s Chris Johnson won the individual title with a three-round score of 199.
The Crusaders are next in action on Saturday, April 3 and Sunday, April 4 at the Yale Spring Open hosted by Yale at the Yale Golf Club in New Haven, Conn. Tee times are set for 8:00 a.m. both days.
