Holy Cross Set For St. Anselm And NEIGA Championship

- The Holy Cross men's golf team begins to wind down the fall portion of its 2009-2010 schedule. Its next competition is Sunday, Oct. 18, vs. St. Anselm at the Marshfield Country Club in Marshfield, Mass. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. The team then participates in the NEIGA Championship on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, at the Captain's Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. The action both days is slated to tee off at 7:45 a.m.
- Last season, the Crusaders defeated St. Anselm by four strokes in their dual meet in Marshfield, Mass. Two members of the roster, junior co-captain Tim McGovern (Oradell, N.J.) and junior James Burokas (Brant Rock, Mass.), participated in last year's event. McGovern finished in first with an 82, while Burokas tied for sixth with an 87.
- The Crusaders are coming off a busy weekend. Some members of the team took part in the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen Invitational in Litchfield, N.H. on Oct. 11-12. Freshman Mike McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) was the top Holy Cross performer for the second time this season, finishing in sixth with a two-day score of 150. Junior co-captain Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.) was second for the Crusaders, shooting a 158 and tying for 13th. Holy Cross finished fourth of six.
- In the weekend's other golf event, team members competed in the Nichols Invitational at the Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester, Mass. Sophomore Andrew Wong (Wailuku, Hawaii) led the Crusaders in his first outing of the season with a fourth place 76. Junior John Weber (Branford, Conn.) shot a 78 and tied for sixth. Freshman Robert Machado (Miami, Fla.) made his Holy Cross debut, carding an 80.
