Holy Cross Men's Golf Takes 15th At MacDonald Cup
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -
Freshman Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) shot a
team-best 221 as the Holy Cross men's golf team to 15th at the
MacDonald Cup at the Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn., in its
second competition of the fall. Zychowski improved his score in
each round, shooting a 75 in the first round and following it up
with scores of 74 and 72. He tied for 44th individually.
Junior co-captain Colin Andrade (Assonet, Mass.)
came in second for the Crusaders, tying for 56th with a 226 on
rounds of 74, a personal-best 70 and 82. Junior James
Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) was third for Holy Cross with a
232 (66th place), followed by freshman Michael McCarthy
(Tolland, Conn.) with a 237 (71st) and sophomore
Andrew Wong (Wailuku, Hawaii) with a 239
(72nd).
Yale won the team title shooting a 2-over-par 842 in the
tournament. Iowa State was second, three strokes off the lead. St.
Edward's, Rhode Island and Central Connecticut rounded out the top
five. Holy Cross finished 14 strokes behind Fordham.
The Crusaders return to action next weekend with two events. Some
members of the team will participate in the Nichols Invitational at
the Green Hills Golf Course in Worcester, Mass. on Oct. 11. Others
will travel to the Passaconway Country Club in Litchfield, N.H. for
the Southern New Hampshire Invitational on Oct. 11-12.
