Three Crusaders Qualify For Holy Cross Men's Golf Team
WORCESTER, Mass. -
Holy Cross men's golf coach Bob Molt has announced
the results of the 36-hole qualifier, held Sept. 5 and 6 at the
Heritage Golf Club, to fill the three remaining roster spots for
the 2009-2010 season. Senior Taylor Scott (Meredith,
N.H.), junior James Burokas (Brant Rock,
Mass.) and sophomore Andrew Wong (Wailuku,
Hawaii) were the top three scorers and have qualified for
the team. Twelve golfers participated overall.
Burokas shot a 154 over the two days to earn the first spot, and was the only qualifier to score below 80 in each round. Wong's first-round score of 73 was the best 18-hole score of the weekend, and his score of 155 overall earned him the second slot. The third opening went to Scott, who tied for third with a 159 and won the spot outright with a par on the 12th hole in a playoff.
Both Burokas and Wong were members of the team last season. Wong shot a two-round score of 165 at the Dartmouth Invitational, including a season-best round of 81, and shot a 94 at the Lou Flumere Invitational. Burokas had a season-best 87 at both the Lou Flumere Invitational and in the match against St. Anselm. Scott returns to the squad after a two-year layoff. As a freshman in 2006-2007, he participated in four rounds with the team and averaged 85.3 strokes-per-round.
The Holy Cross men's golf team opens its season Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Mulekicker Invitational in West Point, N.Y. The rounds both days are set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
