Worcester, Mass . - Holy Cross sophomore defensive back Casey Gough (Hinsdale, Ill.) has been named the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week for games ending September 11, it was announced by the conference office. Gough averaged 42.4 yards on five kickoff returns, as the Crusaders dropped a close 37-31 decision to San Diego last Saturday.
Gough had a 92-yard kickoff return with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, setting up a touchdown which would tie the score at 31-31. He also had a 40-yard return earlier in the fourth quarter to set up another Holy Cross touchdown, in addition to returning a kick 44 yards in the third quarter. For the game, Gough totaled 212 yards on his five kickoff returns, in addition to recording four tackles and two pass breakups on defense. On the season, he is now averaging 36.4 yards per kickoff return, a mark which leads the Patriot League and ranks fifth in the nation in Division I-AA.
The Crusaders (0-2 overall, 0-0 Patriot League) will return to action this Saturday, September 18, when they travel to Harvard. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m., in a game which will be shown by CN8 on Comcast Cablevision.
