WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross junior cornerback Casey Gough (Hinsdale, Ill.) has been selected as the National Special Teams Player of the Week by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette, for games through Nov. 19. Gough, who was also named the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week, led the Crusaders to a 51-33 victory at Bucknell on Saturday.
In the Bucknell game, Gough had four kickoff returns for 173 yards, recording the fourth-most single game kickoff return yards in school history. In the third quarter, after Bucknell had cut Holy Cross' lead to 10 points (37-27), Gough returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown to put the game away. In addition to his special teams efforts, he also posted four solo tackles on defense.
For the season, Gough returned nine kickoffs for 305 yards, good for an average of 33.9 yards per return. He also ranked fourth on the team with 45 total tackles this year, in addition to posting three interceptions and six pass breakups.
Holy Cross concluded the 2005 season with an overall record of 6-5, and a 3-3 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders posted a winning record for the first time since 2000, and only the second time since 1992.
