Nielsen Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Chris Nielsen (Center Line, Mich.), a linebacker on the Holy Cross football team, has been selected as the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I squad, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I-A or I-AA schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

On the field, Nielsen ranks third on the team with 40 total tackles, including 31 solo stops. He currently leads the team and the Patriot League with six sacks for 31 yards on the year. Nielsen has also recorded nine tackles for loss and a pass breakup this season, and was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week following the Crusaders' 35-30 victory over Brown on Oct. 7. Academically, Nielsen has a 3.43 grade point average with a major in mathematics.

By earning Academic All-District honors, Nielsen will now be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team will be announced on Nov. 30.

Holy Cross (7-3 overall, 4-1 Patriot League) concludes the regular season this Saturday, Nov. 11, when it travels to Colgate (3-6 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) for a 12:30 p.m. game.
