WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross sophomore tailback Mike Kielt (Southbury, Conn.) has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 27-10 victory over Bucknell. Kielt led a Crusader offense which posted 512 yards of total offense and recorded 22 first downs against the Bison.
In the Bucknell game, Kielt rushed 26 times for a career-high 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns, in addition to catching three passes for 32 yards. He scored his first touchdown at the 6:29-mark of the first quarter on a four-yard run to give Holy Cross an early 7-0 lead. Then, with 4:10 left in the third quarter, Kielt scored on a five-yard run to give the Crusaders a 27-10 advantage, putting the game away. He also had a key 56-yard run (the longest of his career) earlier in the third quarter, to set up another Holy Cross touchdown.
On the season, Kielt has carried the ball 93 times for 441 yards and four touchdowns, while leading the team with an average of 55.1 rushing yards per game. Over the course of his career as a Crusader, he now has 473 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 108 carries.
Holy Cross (7-3 overall, 4-1 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 11, when it travels to Colgate (3-6 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) for its final regular season game of 2006.
