WORCESTER, Mass. - The College of the Holy Cross football team has named Mike Pedone its new offensive coordinator, as announced by head coach Tom Gilmore. Pedone, who will also work directly with the tight ends, will be in his 13th season as a member of the Crusader coaching staff, serving as assistant head coach for the last two years.
For the last 12 seasons, Pedone has been the offensive line coach for Holy Cross. Last year, he led an offensive line which paved the way for the Crusaders to lead the Patriot League in scoring (35.9 points per game), total offense (463.4 yards per game) and passing offense (335.2 yards per game). Pedone's offensive line also allowed just 14 sacks during the 2007 season, while the team attempted 497 passes (just one sack for every 36.5 times the team dropped back to pass). During his time at Holy Cross, Pedone has developed 10 offensive linemen who have won All-Patriot League honors.
Prior to his time with the Crusaders, Pedone spent one season as an assistant offensive line coach and tight ends coach at Boston University. A 1994 graduate of Boston University, he had a distinguished playing career for the Terriers, serving as captain of the 1993 and 1994 teams which advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. He began his career as a defensive lineman, but after moving to the offensive line in 1993, he earned All-Yankee Conference, All-East and honorable mention All-America honors in 1994.
With Pedone's promotion to offensive coordinator, former tight ends coach Jeremy Bandy will take over as the Crusaders' offensive line coach. Bandy served as Holy Cross' tight ends coach in 2006 and 2007, guiding the career of All-Patriot League selection Ryan McGuire. He previously was the offensive line coach at Allegheny College from 2002-2005. A 2001 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, Bandy played both center and guard on the offensive line for the Yellow Jackets.
The Crusaders are scheduled to open spring practice on Thursday, March 20, with the annual spring game set for Saturday, April 19. The 2008 season is set to begin on Saturday, September 6, when Holy Cross plays host to Massachusetts.
