WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior wide receiver Mike Fess (Caldwell, N.J.), a member of the Holy Cross football team, has been selected as the 2013-2014 Crusader of the Year. The most prestigious student-athlete award presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Crusader of the Year goes to a senior who has excelled not only in varsity athletics, but also in the classroom and the community, and has been prominent in campus activities.
Fess was named second team All-Patriot League as a senior, after previously earning second team All-League honors during his sophomore season. He led the team with 75 receptions for 893 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013, and ranked second on the team in scoring with 54 points. Fess placed fourth on the Holy Cross single-season list for receptions, sixth for touchdown catches and eighth for receiving yards, in addition to ranking fifth in the Patriot League in receptions and seventh in receiving yards. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, Fess totaled 209 catches for 2,211 yards and 15 scores. He finished his collegiate career as Holy Cross' all-time leader in receptions, while standing fourth in receiving yards.
In the classroom, Fess owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.39 with a major in history. He was chosen to the Patriot League All-Academic team as a senior, while earning a spot on the Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star team. In addition, Fess volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Massachusetts and Friends of Jaclyn, while taking part in Holy Cross Cares Day, Working for Worcester, and the Be a Match bone marrow donor program.
Fess will be presented with the Crusader of the Year award at the 59th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremonial Banquet, to be held on Saturday, May 3, at 5:00 p.m. in the Hogan Campus Center.
