Fess Selected To FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team
WORCESTER, Mass. — Senior wide receiver Mike Fess (Caldwell, N.J.), a member of the Holy Cross football team, has been selected to the 2013 Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star team, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. The squad included 43 student-athletes from schools around the nation.
Fess was previously chosen to the Patriot League All-Academic team, in addition to being named second team All-Patriot League for the second time in his career. He played in all 12 games this year at wide receiver, starting 11 times. Fess led the team with 75 receptions for 893 yards and nine touchdowns, and ranked second on the team in scoring with 54 points. He placed fourth on the Holy Cross single-season list for receptions, sixth for touchdown catches and eighth for receiving yards, in addition to ranking fifth in the Patriot League in receptions and seventh in receiving yards. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, Fess totaled 209 catches for 2,211 yards and 15 scores. He finished his collegiate career as Holy Cross' all-time leader in receptions, while standing fourth in receiving yards. In the classroom, he owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.37 with a major in history.
The FCS Athletic Directors Academic All-Star team consists of players with a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study, who are also starters or key players with legitimate athletic credentials.
Holy Cross concluded the 2013 season with an overall record of 3-9, and tied for fifth in the Patriot League with a 1-4 mark in conference games.
