Pujals Named Patriot League Rookie Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman quarterback Peter Pujals (Glenview, Ill.) has been selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, for his performance in Saturday's 21-14 loss to Monmouth. Pujals becomes the third different Holy Cross player to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors this year.
During Saturday's game against Monmouth, Pujals came off the bench in the second half to lead the Holy Cross offense on its final four drives. He almost brought the Crusaders back for the victory, leading touchdown drives on the team's final two possessions. Pujals threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Mike Fess (Caldwell, N.J.) with 4:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, then added a 16-yard scoring strike to sophomore tailback Elad Covaliu (Rockville, Md.) with 1:23 left in the game. On the evening, he completed 12 of 19 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to leading the team in rushing with 22 yards on nine carries.
In two games played this season, Pujals has now connected on 13 of 21 attempts for 129 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 35 yards on 12 carries.
Holy Cross (1-3 overall) returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 28, when it travels to Dartmouth (1-0 overall) for a 7:00 p.m. game.
